Sound is a precursor to noise. It is all around us and has multifarious uses in everyday life. It is most people's direct form of communication. However, sound may sometimes interfere with normal activities and it is then that it crosses the boundary from sound to noise. In Malaysia, because of rapid industrialization and urbanization, noise is becoming an increasing problem, which government legislation seeks to control.
