Sabah and Sarawak

The mountains of Sabah and Sarawak dominate the terrain of their respective states. Although not high by Himalayan standards, there are several peaks that exceed 2000 metres. Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain, rises up much higher than any peak on Peninsular Malaysia. The rugged mountain ranges not only provide watersheds, but have also helped shape the settlement patterns and cultural life of the local people.
