Mangroves
Mangroves provide shelter from the wind.
Mangroves are one of the major wetland types in Malaysia. Over half the total mangrove forests are located in eastern Sabah. As an ecosystem, the mangrove forest is dynamic and relatively fragile, and thus very sensitive to changes brought about by both natural phenomena, such as strong winds, localized storms and seasonal tidal surges, and human intervention. For this reason, preservation of the country's mangroves has become a national concern.
