Land and people

Malaysia´s people are a rich tapestry of different races and religious groupings. Because of its pivotal position on the trade routes between East and West, Malaysia has historically seen a diverse influx of traders and settlers. In addition to Europeans, Indians and Chinese arrived to swell the ranks of the indigenous inhabitants. Groups of the Orang Asli, or 'first people', still roam distinct parts of the country, but rural communities have been reduced at the expense of growing industrialization.
