INTRODUCTION

Sham Sani

This volume presents, in a unique way, the physical environment of Malaysia, the impacts made upon it by human interference, and the policy interventions to ensure sustainability. The bias in coverage in favour of the physical environment is intentional; the objective has been to highlight the richness of resources and the unique geological formations so characteristic of the country. However, the biophysical and human environments have not been neglected. The complex nature of the environment and issues relating to it are a product of the interaction between these two elements within a single ecosystem.
