Geology
Peninsular Malaysia's four domains are almost entirely built up of pre-Tertiary rocks.
Differences in rock associations, their geological ages and structural aspects divide Malaysia into a number of geological domains, each having evolved, in part, separately from the neighbouring regions. Rocks are continually subject to the earth's geological processes that over time create new landforms. Malaysia displays a broad range of rock types, from the sands and silts of the coastal plains to the granite of the Main Range and limestone outcrops of the Langkawi Islands.
