Flash and monsoon flooding
Under urban conditions, almost the entire volume of falling rain quickly drains into the river, often in a matter of minutes.
Floods are the most common natural hazard in Malaysia. They cause damage to property and crops and sometimes loss of life. Flash floods are swift, localized, highly unpredictable and are largely due to land use changes induced by rapid urbanization and economic development in major cities. Monsoon floods occur annually during the monsoon seasons and are more widespread and devastating.
