Professor Dato' Dr Mohd Sham Mohd Sani was Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia from 1993 to 1998. A well-known geographer, he was then with the university's Geography Department. He has also been a much-valued and influential member of a number of environment groups in Malaysia, including the Technical Working Group on Environment and Resources for the Sixth Malaysia Plan (1991–5).
