Environmental awareness in action
Bird watching is a growing national pastime. In Malaysia, over 750 bird species have been recorded. Bird sanctuaries already exist at Kuala Gula in Perak, Mantanani and Kota Belud in Sabah and at Sibuli in Sarawak.
The number and variety of activities promoting the environment and good stewardship of it in Malaysia are growing. Between them official government agencies and non-government organizations are developing nature-related activities which render Malaysia's natural world more accessible, but at the same time seek to protect and develop it in sustainable ways.
