Air quality
Until relatively recently, air pollution was not regarded as a significant problem in Malaysia. However, following rapid urban and industrial expansion, the quality of air, particularly in built-up areas, has become a major concern. For certain locations and during certain times of the year, the situation is serious. Haze and acid rain are the main problems and are threats to both the natural environment and the health of the Malaysian population.
