Malayan United Industries Berhad ('MUI'), founded in 1960 as a household enamelware and toothbrush manufacturer, is today one of Malaysia's successful conglomerates with extensive interests in retailing, hotels, food and confectionery, financial services, property, travel and tourism. The MUI Group has controlling interests in seven public quoted companies in Malaysia and major interests in several companies listed in international stock exchanges. Its geographical reach has extended from Malaysia to the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, the United States of America, Australia, Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China and Singapore. A substantial portion of its revenue is derived from overseas operations.
The Group has realigned its diverse operations with emphasis on its principal businesses of retailing, hotels, food and confectionery and financial services, while retaining significant interests in other businesses that has built up goodwill over the years.
